About Our Potatoes

  • Does McCain use Genetically Modified (GM) potatoes?

We don’t use GM potatoes in our products.
  • Do you only use British potatoes?

Wherever possible we use 100% British potatoes for our chips.
We have trusted relationships with 250 growers across Britain and a number of our longstanding partnerships span three generations of farming families.

The Red Tractor logo is displayed on-pack where 100% British potatoes are used for our chips.

Last year’s growing season experienced exceptionally wet weather which has affected all agricultural crops, including potatoes. The challenging harvesting conditions have resulted in the presence of more natural potato defects. Defects are naturally occurring and are not harmful. We are continuing to work together with our growers across the country to maintain the highest standards of quality possible.

  • What does the Red Tractor actually mean?

Red Tractor Assurance is the UK’s leading farm and quality food assurance scheme. The Red Tractor logo signifies ‘farm to pack’ assurance. You can find out more about the Assured Produce Scheme and Red Tractor symbol at: www.redtractor.org.uk

  • How can you be sure where your potatoes come from?

Every batch of potatoes delivered to McCain comes with its own ‘passport’ – giving us traceability of our products right back to the field where the potatoes were grown.
McCain is a leading supporter of the Red Tractor Assurance Scheme. All of our UK growers are members, ensuring they’re aware of best-practice farming that lead to more sustainable and efficient processes on the farm.

  • What ingredients do you use in your products?

At McCain, we take simple ingredients and prepare them with care. No artificial colours or flavours – just real, convenient food you can trust and enjoy.
Most of our products simply consist of potato and sunflower oil. Some of our products have coatings and spice mixes for added flavour. For more information on our products, including ingredients, cooking instructions and nutritional values – visit the ‘PRODUCTS’ page of our website.
