On your marks, get set, go…
We are proud to announce that we are supporting UK Athletics from the ground up. This includes grassroots athletics, via the Young Athletes League and the UKA UK Challenge, as well as partnering Team GB and NI.
As part of our exciting five year partnership with UK Athletics, September 2008 saw the launch of McCain Track & Field.
Over 5000 people attended Track & Field Roadshows up and down the country and experienced a fun taster of athletics. At activity centres in the cities, everyone got the opportunity to test their agility, strength, power, speed, co-ordination and fitness levels. Visitors were encouraged to sign up to a McCain Track & Field Day the following day or week.
People of all ages attended our Track & Field Days, trying their hand at the long jump, high jump and shot put, expertly coached by Sally Gunnell, Olympic athletes and professional local coaches.
McCain Track & Field is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and have a go. And for those budding athletes of the future who really enjoyed what they saw and tried, there was the opportunity to sign up to their local club and continue with athletics.
Now we’re also launching McCain Athletics Networks. This is your chance to make athletics a regular and enjoyable part of your life! The McCain Athletics Networks bring together local athletics clubs to provide better facilities and coaching, as well as quality, free, taster sessions to anyone interested in trying athletics for the first time.
Since becoming Principal Partner of UK Athletics we have invested £300,000 in McCain Track & Field. This investment has now been matched with a further £300,000 from Sport England, which will make McCain Athletics Networks possible.
