Chips are Kosher!

11th January 2007

With National Chip Week kicking off today, McCain announces its chips really are Kosher. Products in the McCain range that are certified include, McCain Oven Chips, McCain Rustic Oven Chips, McCain Wedges and McCain Homefries. All ingredients, equipment and processes employed in the manufacture of these have been approved by the Sephardi Kashut Authority (SKA).

All McCain products use sunflower oil, which is a vegetable fat, making them suitable for consumers on a Kosher diet. The plant factory and processes used to produce McCain products have no traces of animal fat and are also Kosher approved.

All potatoes used in McCain products washed, chopped and lightly cooked in sunflower oil before being frozen. All equipment used in preparation is also certified as kosher.

David Steinhof of the SKA, comments: ‘McCain is the biggest producer of chips and has no trace of animal fats in its factories; it was a logical manufacturer to approach for kosher certification. We are working hard to gain wider access for the Jewish community to a greater number of popular foods.’

Simon Eyles, Communications Director, McCain Foods (GB) Ltd agrees, ‘We use real ingredients and simple methods to make our products, making our production process completely transparent for Kosher certification. We are delighted that the McCain range is now available to the Jewish community.’

The SKA logo will be introduced on the packs of the six products over the next few months, making it easy for the consumer to recognise these as Kosher products.

SKA certified McCain products are available at supermarkets nationwide.

McCain. It's not pukka, it's Kosher.
